Expertise:

Mr. Craig's professional career spans 23 years. He is an experienced project manager and technical hydrogeologist with expertise in all aspects of groundwater supply and groundwater contamination. He has specific expertise in advanced quantitative analysis including application of almost all groundwater flow and solute transport models. He is an original MODFLOW and MT3D user and an advanced hands-on user of all GMS modules. He is also experienced in many relevant computer applications, including databases, programming languages, and geographic information system (GIS) technologies.

Dan has been involved in numerous groundwater supply projects including private and municipal supply well and aquifer recharge systems. He is experienced in hydrologic data collection; construction of groundwater supply, injection, and monitoring wells; and design of pumping and treatment systems. Dan has also worked on numerous groundwater contamination and site remediation projects, and routinely evaluates fate and transport of solutes in groundwater. He has conducted strategic analysis and planning on behalf of a variety of clients, including water and wastewater agencies, chemical and petroleum companies, semiconductor and microcomputer companies, manufacturing companies, nuclear facilities, landfills, land developers, legal counsel, and federal, state, county, and city governments. He has also been designated as an expert witness for several groundwater litigation matters.

During 2009, Dan completed a predictive nitrate and salt balance model of the Temescal Groundwater Basin for the City of Corona (link to project description), California, which estimated future groundwater concentrations under several groundwater pumping and recharge scenarios. In conjunction with Dr. William Motzer, Dan also recently completed the South Bay Water Recycling Groundwater Monitoring and Mitigation Update Project for the City of San Jose, California. For this project, groundwater monitoring results over the past 12 years were evaluated to identify any potential groundwater quality changes associated with the City's recycled water irrigation systems. This innovative evaluation identified different water quality changes not associated with recycled water use and supported the City's continued large-scale use of recycled water for irrigation.
