David W. Abbott

Expertise:
Mr. Abbott has 35 years of experience in the exploration and development of groundwater
supplies, installation and design of water supply wells, perennial yield studies, contamination
investigations, and protection of groundwater resources. He has particular expertise in the design,
installation, testing and operation of wells, having designed and installed more than 100
production wells in the western United States. He has also designed and installed injection wells
for recycled water and aquifer storage and recovery. His project experience encompasses a wide
array of geologic environments and groundwater issues. He has provided services to groundwater
purveyors, geotechnical engineers, construction dewatering contractors, groundwater
management districts, environmental pollution clients, and the precious and aggregate mining
industry.
David has contributed considerable time and energy to professional organizations including
GRA, the Water Resources Center Archive at the University of California at Berkeley, the
California Groundwater Association, NGWA, and the California Council of Geoscience
Organizations. To name just a few contributions, he has served variously as GRA San Francisco
Branch Treasurer, Secretary to the GRA state Board of Directors, and GRA Board Director; he
has contributed to GRA programs by chairing, organizing, and/or participating technical
workshops, classes, annual meetings, committees, and task forces. Since 2005, David has
contributed a quarterly column to the GRA publication HydroVisions. He was a contributor to
two books, one on MTBE and the other on Chromium (VI). David also assisted in the
preparation of the third edition of Groundwater Hydrology (2005) by David Keith Todd and
Larry W. Mays.
