Expertise:
Mr. Lin has over 10 years of experience in groundwater basin management, including basin
conceptual model development, water supply exploration, and managed aquifer recharge (MAR)
evaluation. Edwin has been responsible for the design and construction of municipal water
supply and monitoring wells, design and analysis of aquifer pumping tests, field investigation
design for MAR projects, and quantification of impacts to groundwater quantity and quality
from proposed large-scale developments.
In addition to hands-on field experience, He is skilled
in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database development, groundwater flow and
vadose zone modeling, geochemical analysis, and application of advanced environmental
statistics.
Recent projects for which Edwin held key responsibilities include a year-long study (link to
project description) for the Santa Clara Valley Water District that evaluated the sensitivity and
vulnerability of groundwater to potentially contaminating land uses using logistic regression
modeling. Findings have been incorporated in a web-enabled GIS tool for land use planning
purposes. In addition, Edwin has completed a study using intrinsic tracers and innovative
geochemical plotting techniques to track and evaluate the impacts of recycled water injection on
seawater intrusion in the West Coast Basin in Southern California. He also recently revised the
monitoring and reporting program for a private landfill in southern California, which included
application of non-parametric statistical methods to address complex site hydrogeologic and
groundwater quality conditions while satisfying federal and states monitoring performance
standards.
Edwin has published papers in cooperation with the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and
Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) on the assessment of physical clogging and pre-
treatment options prior to Aquifer Storage and Recovery.
